No injuries were reported in the blaze that broke out Monday night at 141 Leverett Rd.
AMHERST — A blaze that destroyed a Leverett Road home Monday appears to have been accidental, Amherst Fire Chief W. Tim Nelson said Tuesday morning.
“We are not treating it as suspicious,” Nelson said.
Investigators continue to probe the cause of the fire.
The blaze, which displaced five residents at 141 Leverett Rd., was reported about 5:15 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Assistant Fire Chief Donald McKay said Monday night the fire spread from the garage and attached breezeway into the interior of the home before firefighters arrived.
Nelson said it may take investigators several days to determine the cause of the blaze due to the extensive damage. “It’s pretty much a total loss,” he said of the home.
State Trooper Joseph Gura, who is attached to the state Fire Marshal’s Office, is assisting in the investigation. The Pioneer Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is aiding those displaced.
According records from the Town of Amherst, the home is owned by Alexey P. and Svethlana I. Peshkov. The single-story raised ranch and land has a total assessed value of $215,000.
