NORTHAMPTON - An Amherst woman pleaded guilty Thursday to a witness intimidation charge involving the death of Kelly DeMarco and had her case continued without a finding.

Julie McKenzie, 23, was the last of three people who faced charges in DeMarco's death outside the Lord Jeffrey Apartments in Belchertown on June 17, 2010.

According to police, DeMarco was drinking and doing drugs with McKenzie, Lennox C. Williams and Kalem Daniels in his apartment there when he became enraged and began shouting at his companions. The argument went outside, where DeMarco got into an altercation with Williams and Daniels, police said. Williams punched DeMarco in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement. DeMarco died from his injuries.

Williams was found innocent of manslaughter in September. The Northwestern District Attorney's office decided against going forward on a manslaughter charge against Daniels, but he was sentenced to 2½ years in jail for witness intimidation.

A charge of being an accessory after the fact was dismissed against McKenzie Thursday. The witness intimidation count was continued without a finding on the conditions that McKenzie undergo counseling, enroll in school and stay away from the Lord Jeffrey Apartments.
